An Eerie Encounter
Darkness enveloped the night, creating a weird atmosphere. Occasional rain fell while thunder clapped, accompanied by the moans of jackals and the eerie laughter of spirits. Ignoring his fears, King Vikram swerved and brought the corpse down once again. As he crossed the desolate cremation ground with the corpse on his shoulder, the vampire that possessed it spoke, “O King, I wonder who inspired you to undertake this unusual task at such an unearthly hour. I hope he is not a tantrik. A tantrik can mislead a person. Allow me to narrate an incident to illustrate my point. Pay attention; it might bring you some relief.”
The Tale of Suvak
The vampire continued: In the Vidyachala hills, there lived a yogi, who was also a tantrik. He lived a quiet life, wishing not to be widely known. Nevertheless, seekers came from far and wide, praying for him to teach them. Among them was a young man named Suvak, who had lived with the yogi for several years. He was aware that the yogi possessed far greater powers than he ever revealed. One day, Suvak bowed and pleaded, “O Master, teach me all you know. Let your mysterious powers come down to me, and I will remain ever faithful.”
The yogi, after some pause, replied, “You can have great powers if you marry the princess of the kingdom of Ujjal.” Suvak immediately set off for Ujjal, lodged in the house of a nobleman, and started displaying his miraculous abilities. When the king summoned him to the palace, Suvak performed wonders, impressing everyone, including the princess, who eagerly showed interest in his talents.
A Proposal and Its Repercussions
Suvak, emboldened, approached the princess for a private audience. There, he confessed, “My guru has assured me I can become the greatest tantrik if….” The princess, puzzled, asked, “What’s the condition?” “Only if I could marry you!” he declared, prompting her serious response, “Gentleman! That is out of the question. I am betrothed to Kumarendra, the young King of Vijaypuri.” Despite Suvak’s attempts to sway her with promises of power, the princess remained steadfast.
When Kumarendra arrived to solidify his engagement, Suvak confronted him, desperately trying to dissuade him from marrying the princess. In anger, Suvak cursed Kumarendra, disfiguring him. However, the princess defended Kumarendra, stating her love was true and deeper than appearance alone. Ultimately, their marriage took place, breaking Suvak’s spell and restoring Kumarendra’s original visage. The princess insisted on Suvak’s imprisonment for his treachery.
Wisdom in Power
After being freed, Suvak returned to the yogi, demanding why he hadn’t revealed the futility of his quest. Calmly, the yogi said, “Seek the answer yourself. If you can, you’ll make progress.” Suvak, bewildered and frustrated, departed without change.
The vampire turned to King Vikram with a challenging tone, demanding to know what the yogi intended for Suvak to discover. King Vikram answered, “One who wields great power must be noble-hearted and selfless; otherwise, their power can lead to destruction. The yogi wanted Suvak to see how he misused his limited abilities for selfish desires. If Suvak realizes this, he can begin to rise above his selfishness.”
As soon as King Vikram completed his responses, the vampire vanished, taking the corpse with him.

जैसे ही राजा विक्रम ने अपना जवाब पूरा किया, पिशाच गायब हो गया, और लाश को अपने साथ ले गया।
