Sukanya was the beautiful daughter of King Sarathi and once while going on and hunting expedition they came to the ashram of the powerful Rishi Chyavan who was not present in the ashram at that time.
They felt at peace and relaxed at the ashram so decided to rest there for some time and Sukanya went out with her friends to play in the forest where she saw two streaks of light in an ant hill and thought them to be some fireflies. She took two sticks to pluck them out, but unfortunately it was Rishi Chayavan who was meditating and whose whole body was covered with the ant hill and trying to pluck out the fireflies, she accidentally blinded the holy sage.
As a penance, Sukanya decided to marry the Rishi and started serving him devotedly.
The sage was very old and bent. One day the celestial physicians, the Ashwini twins visited the ashram and suggested that they could bring the sage back to his youth.
They took the sage with them to a lake which had medicinal powers and all three of them dipped inside the lake and when they came out they looked alike with the same clothes and full of youth.
Sukanya was asked to choose and identify which one is her husband and if she made the wrong choice she would have to go with one of the Ashwini twins.
Sukanya meditated on the goddess and she was asked to look into the eyes of all three of them. The person whose eyes blinked was a human. Where as the celestial beings' eyes did not blink and she easily identified her husband.
The ashwini twins blessed her and departed as Sukanya lived with Rishi Chyavan happily ever after. Her father was also happy with her.
It is said that Rishi Chauhan, son of Sage Brighu was the person who made the famous Chyavanprash.
सुकन्या राजा सारथी की खूबसूरत बेटी थीं और एक बार शिकार अभियान पर जाते समय वे शक्तिशाली ऋषि च्यवन के आश्रम में पहुंचे, जो उस समय आश्रम में मौजूद नहीं थे।
उन्हें आश्रम में शांति और आराम महसूस हुआ, इसलिए उन्होंने कुछ समय वहां आराम करने का फैसला किया और सुकन्या अपनी सहेलियों के साथ जंगल में खेलने के लिए निकल गईं, जहां उसने चींटियों के टीले में रोशनी की दो धारियां देखीं और उन्हें लगा कि ये कुछ जुगनू हैं। उसने उन्हें बाहर निकालने के लिए दो छड़ियाँ लीं, लेकिन दुर्भाग्य से वह ऋषि च्यवन थे जो ध्यान कर रहे थे और जिनका पूरा शरीर चींटी के टीले से ढका हुआ था और जुगनू को बाहर निकालने की कोशिश कर रहे थे, उसने गलती से पवित्र ऋषि को अंधा कर दिया।
तपस्या के रूप में सुकन्या ने ऋषि से विवाह करने का निर्णय लिया और समर्पित भाव से उनकी सेवा करने लगी।
ऋषि बहुत बूढ़े और झुके हुए थे। एक दिन दिव्य चिकित्सकों, अश्विनी जुड़वाँ ने आश्रम का दौरा किया और सुझाव दिया कि वे ऋषि को उनकी युवावस्था में वापस ला सकते हैं।
वे ऋषि को अपने साथ एक झील पर ले गए जिसमें औषधीय शक्तियां थीं और उन तीनों ने झील के अंदर डुबकी लगाई और जब वे बाहर आए तो वे एक जैसे कपड़े और यौवन से भरे हुए दिख रहे थे।
सुकन्या को यह चुनने और पहचानने के लिए कहा गया कि उसका पति कौन है और यदि उसने गलत चुनाव किया तो उसे अश्विनी जुड़वा भाइयों में से किसी एक के साथ जाना होगा।
सुकन्या ने देवी का ध्यान किया और उन्हें उन तीनों की आंखों में देखने के लिए कहा गया। जिस शख्स की आंखें झपकीं वह इंसान था. जहां देवताओं की आंखें नहीं झपकती और उसने आसानी से अपने पति को पहचान लिया।
अश्विनी जुड़वाँ भाइयों ने उसे आशीर्वाद दिया और चले गए । सुकन्या हमेशा के लिए ऋषि च्यवन के साथ खुशी से रहने लगी। उसके पिता भी उससे खुश थे।
ऐसा कहा जाता है कि ऋषि ब्रिघू के पुत्र ऋषि च्यवन ही वह व्यक्ति थे जिन्होंने प्रसिद्ध च्यवनप्राश बनाया था।
