सत्यवादी राजा हरिश्चंद्र Harishchandra - The Truthful King

राजा हरिश्चंद्र अयोध्या के राजा थे जो सत्य और निष्ठा के प्रति अपनी अटूट प्रतिबद्धता के लिए जाने जाते हैं। हिंदू धार्मिक इतिहास के अनुसार, हरिश्चंद्र की देवताओं द्वारा यह देखने के लिए परीक्षा ली गई थी कि क्या वह अपने सिद्धांतों पर कायम रह सकते हैं, और अपने वचन को निभाने के लिए उन्हें कई कठिनाइयों और बलिदानों का सामना करना पड़ा। हरिश्चंद्र की कहानी को नेतृत्व और जीवन में ईमानदारी, सत्यनिष्ठा और निस्वार्थता के महत्व का एक शक्तिशाली उदाहरण माना जाता है।

 राजा हरिश्चंद्र इक्ष्वाकु वंश के थे, जो प्राचीन भारत के सबसे प्रमुख राजवंशों में से एक था। यह वही श्री रामचन्द्र का वंश है।

 राजा हरिश्चंद्र की पत्नी तारामती थी और उनका पुत्र रोहित्सव था। हरिश्चंद्र के शासनकाल में प्रजा बहुत सुखी और समृद्ध थी।

 राजा हरिश्चंद्र की प्रसिद्धि पूरी दुनिया में फैल गई और अंततः स्वर्ग तक पहुँच गई। एक बार, भगवान इंद्र ने ऋषि नारद से पूछा, “ऋषिवर, आप पूरी दुनिया में घूमते हैं। क्या आप बता सकते हैं कि इस ब्रह्माण्ड का सबसे महान राजा कौन है?”

 नारद को इंद्र की बातों में छिपा अहंकार समझ आ गया. उन्होंने कहा कि भगवान इंद्र सभी राजाओं में सबसे शक्तिशाली थे। हालाँकि, आज के समय में अयोध्या के राजा हरिश्चंद्र से बड़ा कोई राजा नहीं है।

 नारद मुनि की बात सुनकर इंद्र बहुत क्रोधित हो गए और उन्होंने राजा हरिश्चंद्र की परीक्षा लेने का फैसला किया।

 राजा हरिश्चंद्र की परीक्षा लेने के लिए इंद्र ने ऋषि विश्वामित्र से मदद मांगी।

 एक बार राजा जंगल में थे तभी उन्होंने एक परेशान महिला की आवाज सुनी जो मदद मांग रही थी। वह दौड़कर अंदर आया और पाया कि उसने विश्वामित्र की तपस्या को भंग कर दिया है। ऋषि क्रोधित थे और हरिश्चंद्र को श्राप देने ही वाले थे तब हरिश्चंद्र ने उनसे दया की भीख मांगी और ऋषि से कहा कि वह ऋषि को जो कुछ भी चाहिए वह दे देंगे।

 विश्वामित्र ने अपने राज्य की मांग की और हरिश्चंद्र को अपनी पत्नी और बच्चे के साथ उनके पास मौजूद कपड़े पहनकर राज्य छोड़ने का आदेश दिया और साथ ही उनसे दक्षिणा मांगी जो वह अब नहीं दे सके।

 उन्हें ऋषि को सोने के सिक्के देने के लिए 1 महीने का समय दिया गया था और आखिरी दिन जब हरिश्चंद्र सोने के सिक्के प्राप्त नहीं कर सके और अपनी पत्नी के सुझाव पर उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी और बेटे को एक ब्राह्मण को बेच दिया और धन प्राप्त किया। .

 विश्वामित्र ने कहा कि यह तो बहुत कम है और तब हरिश्चंद्र ने स्वयं को श्मशान के रखवाले को बेच दिया और शवों को जलाने का काम करने लगे। अब उसे लगने लगा कि यह केवल एक सपना है कि वह एक महान राजा था।

 एक दिन उनकी पत्नी अपने बेटे का शव लेकर आईं, जिसे सांप ने काट लिया था और हरिश्चंद्र से उसका दाह संस्कार करने की अपील की। लेकिन हरिश्चंद्र ने इसके लिए पैसे की मांग की और उसकी पत्नी ने कहा कि उसके पास पैसे नहीं हैं और वह खुद गुलाम है।

 अंत में, उनकी पत्नी ने कहा कि वह भुगतान के मद्देनजर अपने शरीर के ऊपरी हिस्से का कपड़ा दे देंगी और हरिश्चंद्र सहमत हो गए।

 जैसे ही वह अपना ऊपरी वस्त्र उतारने वाली थी, आकाश में एक चमक हुई और आकाश से पुष्पवर्षा उन पर हुई और इंद्र देव और विश्वामित्र उनके सामने प्रकट हुए।

 पुत्र को पुनः जीवित कर दिया गया और साथ ही हरिश्चंद्र को यह बताया गया कि यह केवल उसकी निष्ठा और ईमानदारी के लिए देवताओं द्वारा परीक्षा थी जिसमें वह अच्छे अंकों से उत्तीर्ण हुआ है।

 पता चला कि यम देव श्मशान के चांडाल का रूप धारण करके आए थे और वह ब्राह्मण कोई और नहीं बल्कि स्वयं इंद्रदेव थे।

 तीनों के आशीर्वाद के बाद हरिश्चंद्र अपने राज्य में वापस लौट आए और इसे अपने बेटे को सौंपने और सेवानिवृत्त होने से पहले कई वर्षों तक उस पर शासन किया।

King Harishchandra was a king of Ayodhya who is known for his unwavering commitment to truth and integrity. According to the Hindu religious itihaas, Harishchandra was tested by the gods to see if he could uphold his principles, and he faced numerous hardships and sacrifices to keep his word. Harishchandra’s story is considered a powerful example of the importance of honesty, integrity, and selflessness in leadership and life.

King Harishchandra belonged to the Ikshvaku dynasty, which was one of the most prominent dynasties in ancient India. This is the same dynasty of Shri Ramchandra. 

King Harishchandra’s wife was Taramati, and his son was Rohitsava. The subjects were very happy and prosperous during the reign of Harishchandra.

King Harishchandra’s fame spread throughout the world, and it eventually reached heaven. Once, Lord Indra asked the sage Narad, “Sage, you roam around the whole world. Can you tell who is the greatest king of this universe?”

Narad understood the pride hidden in Indra’s words. He said that God Indra was the most powerful of all kings. However, there is no greater king than Harishchandra, the king of Ayodhya in today’s time.

Indra became very angry after listening to Sage Narad and decided to test King Harishchandra.

Indra sought help from Sage Vishwamitra to test King Harishchandra.

Once the king was in the forest when he heard the troubled woman's voice seeking help. He rushed in only to find that he has disturbed the penance of Vishwamitra. The Sage was furious and was about to curse  Harishchandra then Harishchandra begged for his mercy and asked the Sage that he will give anything about the sage wants. 

Vishwamitra demanded his kingdom and ordered Harishchandra to leave the kingdom wearing the clothes which he had along with his wife and child and at the same time asked him for dakshina which he could no longer give. 

He was given on 1 months time to give the gold coins to the sage and on the last day when Harishchandra could not obtain the gold coins and on the suggestion of his wife he sold his wife and son to the to a Brahmin and obtained the money.  

Vishwamitra said this is too less and then Harishchandra sold himself to the keeper of the cremation ground and started working by burning bodies. He now felt that it was only a dream that he was once a great king. 

One day his wife came with the dead body of their son who was stung by a snake and appealed to Harishchandra to cremate him. But Harishchandra demanded money for the same and his wife said that she doesn't have any money and she herself is a slave . 

Finally, his wife said she will give the cloth of her upper body in view of the payment and Harishchandra agreed. 

As she was about to remove her upper garment, there was a flash in the skies and flowers fell on them from the heavens and Indra Dev and Vishwamitra appeared before them. 

Dear son was brought back to life and at the same time it was told to Harish Chandra that this was merely your test by the gods for his sincerity, integrity and honesty in which he had passed with flying colors.

It was revealed that Yama Dev had come disguised as the chandala of the crematorium and the Brahmin was no one else but indradev himself. 

After the blessings of the three Harishchandra returned back to his kingdom and ruled over it for many years before handing it over to his son and retiring.
