One folk story of Pitru paksh पितृ पक्ष की एक लोक कथा।

पितृ पक्ष की पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार जोगे तथा भोगे दो भाई थे। दोनों अलग-अलग रहते थे। जोगे धनी था और भोगे निर्धन। दोनों में परस्पर बड़ा प्रेम था। जोगे की पत्नी को धन का अभिमान था, किंतु भोगे की पत्नी बड़ी सरल हृदय थी।

पितृ पक्ष आने पर जोगे की पत्नी ने उससे पितरों का श्राद्ध करने के लिए कहा तो जोगे इसे व्यर्थ का कार्य समझकर टालने की चेष्टा करने लगा, किंतु उसकी पत्नी समझती थी कि यदि ऐसा नहीं करेंगे तो लोग बातें बनाएंगे। फिर उसे अपने मायके वालों को दावत पर बुलाने और अपनी शान दिखाने का यह उचित अवसर लगा।

अतः वह बोली- 'आप शायद मेरी परेशानी की वजह से ऐसा कह रहे हैं, किंतु इसमें मुझे कोई परेशानी नहीं होगी। मैं भोगे की पत्नी को बुला लूंगी। दोनों मिलकर सारा काम कर लेंगी।' फिर उसने जोगे को अपने पीहर न्यौता देने के लिए भेज दिया। 

दूसरे दिन उसके बुलाने पर भोगे की पत्नी सुबह-सवेरे आकर काम में जुट गई। उसने रसोई तैयार की। अनेक पकवान बनाए फिर सभी काम निपटाकर अपने घर आ गई। आखिर उसे भी तो पितरों का श्राद्ध-तर्पण करना था।

 

इस अवसर पर न जोगे की पत्नी ने उसे रोका, न वह रुकी। शीघ्र ही दोपहर हो गई। पितर भूमि पर उतरे। जोगे-भोगे के पितर पहले जोगे के यहां गए तो क्या देखते हैं कि उसके ससुराल वाले वहां भोजन पर जुटे हुए हैं। निराश होकर वे भोगे के यहां गए। वहां क्या था? मात्र पितरों के नाम पर 'अगियारी' दे दी गई थी। पितरों ने उसकी राख चाटी और भूखे ही नदी के तट पर जा पहुंचे।

 

थोड़ी देर में सारे पितर इकट्ठे हो गए और अपने-अपने यहां के श्राद्धों की बढ़ाई करने लगे। जोगे-भोगे के पितरों ने भी अपनी आपबीती सुनाई। फिर वे सोचने लगे- अगर भोगे समर्थ होता तो शायद उन्हें भूखा न रहना पड़ता, मगर भोगे के घर में तो दो जून की रोटी भी खाने को नहीं थी। यही सब सोचकर उन्हें भोगे पर दया आ गई। अचानक वे नाच-नाचकर गाने लगे- 'भोगे के घर धन हो जाए। भोगे के घर धन हो जाए।'

सांझ होने को हुई। भोगे के बच्चों को कुछ भी खाने को नहीं मिला था। उन्होंने मां से कहा- भूख लगी है। तब उन्हें टालने की गरज से भोगे की पत्नी ने कहा- 'जाओ! आंगन में हौदी औंधी रखी है, उसे जाकर खोल लो और जो कुछ मिले, बांटकर खा लेना।'

बच्चे वहां पहुंचे, तो क्या देखते हैं कि हौदी मोहरों से भरी पड़ी है। वे दौड़े-दौड़े मां के पास पहुंचे और उसे सारी बातें बताईं। आंगन में आकर भोगे की पत्नी ने यह सब कुछ देखा तो वह भी हैरान रह गई।

इस प्रकार भोगे भी धनी हो गया, मगर धन पाकर वह घमंडी नहीं हुआ। दूसरे साल का पितृ पक्ष आया। श्राद्ध के दिन भोगे की स्त्री ने छप्पन प्रकार के व्यंजन बनाएं। ब्राह्मणों को बुलाकर श्राद्ध किया। भोजन कराया, दक्षिणा दी। जेठ-जेठानी को सोने-चांदी के बर्तनों में भोजन कराया। इससे पितर बड़े प्रसन्न तथा तृप्त हुए।

According to the folk Lore of Pitru Paksha, there were two brothers Joge and Bhoge. Both lived separately. He lived rich and lived poor. There was great love between both of them. Joge's wife was proud of her wealth, but Bhoge's wife was very simple hearted.

 When Pitru Paksha arrived, Joge's wife asked him to perform Shraddha for his ancestors, so Joge tried to avoid it considering it to be a useless task, but his wife thought that if he did not do so, people would create rumors. Then he felt this was the right opportunity to invite his parents to a feast and show off his glory.

 So she said - 'Maybe you are saying this because of my problem, but I will not have any problem in this. I will call Bhoge's wife. Both of them together will do all the work. Then he sent Joga to invite his wife.

 Next day, on his call, Bhoge's wife came early in the morning and started working. He prepared the kitchen. Cooked many dishes and then completed all the work and came home. After all, he too had to perform Shraddha-tarpan for his ancestors.

 On this occasion, neither Joge's wife stopped him nor did she stop him. Soon it was afternoon. The ancestors descended upon the earth. When Joge-Bhoge's ancestors first went to Joge's place, they saw that his in-laws were busy having dinner there. Disappointed, he went to Bhoge's place. What was there? 'Agiyari' was given only in the name of ancestors. The ancestors licked his ashes and reached the river bank hungry.

 After some time, all the ancestors gathered and started praising the Shraddhas of their respective places. The ancestors of Joge-Bhoge also narrated their ordeal. Then they started thinking - If Bhoge had been able, perhaps he would not have had to remain hungry, but Bhoge's house did not even have enough bread to eat for two days. Thinking all this he felt pity for the sufferer. Suddenly they started dancing and singing – 'May the Bhoge's house become rich.' Let there be wealth in the house of the one who enjoys it.

 It was almost evening. Bhoge's children did not get anything to eat. He told his mother- I am hungry. Then, in order to avoid them, Bhoge's wife said - 'Go! There is an inverted water tank in the courtyard, go and open it and share and eat whatever you find.

When the children reached there, they saw that the basin was full of gold coins. Tjey ran to their mother and told her everything. When Bhoge's wife came to the courtyard and saw all this, she was also surprised.

 In this way Bhoge also became rich, but after getting wealth he did not become arrogant. The patriarch of the second year came. On the day of Shraddha, Bhoge's wife prepared fifty-six types of dishes. Called Brahmins and performed Shraddha. Provided food, gave Dakshina. The brother-in-law and sister-in-law were served food in gold and silver utensils. The ancestors were very happy and satisfied with this.
